Yorba Linda
Symphony Orchestra

Dear Friends and Patrons of
the Yorba Linda Symphony Orchestra:

Welcome to the YLSO's 2008-2009 season!

This year promises more growth as the orchestra moves to bigger venues to accommodate a growing audience that thirsts for the haute culture created over the past four centuries by some of the greatest musical minds of all time. As well, the YLSO continues its endeavor of expanding its repertoire to offer more of that great music, presenting it in a sublime manner befitting the grand accomplishments of these masters.

After returning from a glorious summer tour in China, the orchestra presents its first concert at the Plummer Auditorium in Fullerton, Saturday, October 4 at 4 p.m. As a celebration of the internationally themed year, the YLSO presents "A World Musical Tapestry".

Music of the Czech composer Friedrich Smetana highlights the performance with his Moldau symphonic poems collection about the traditional Czech folk settings and celebrations. Moving to Italy, Gioachino Antonio Rossini, in his famous overture, tells us of the adventure of William Tell, his love, and the Swiss struggle for independence from Austrian oppression. Not far away, Johann Strauss developed many beautiful works On the Beautiful Blue Danube, including a magnificent collection of waltzes. The afternoon is imbued with more international seasonings, including the music of George Frideric Handel and John Phillip Sousa, and toasting the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games one last time with John Williams' Olympic Fanfare and Theme.

Entering into its sixth season, accessibility to a wider audience remains one of the goals of the YLSO as its concerts are spread over the North Orange County region. As an added bonus to the orchestra's four-concert series this season, the YLSO will also present a free concert at the Richard Nixon Library and Birthplace, in Yorba Linda on November 9th at 2:00 p.m.

New YLSO ensembles give rise to more intimate offerings for music lovers at many more local cultural events. In contrast, videos of past performances of the YLSO, accessible through this web site and Youtube, provided over 15,000 viewings in more than 90 countries around the world, last season! Now, the YLSO has been enjoyed by citizens of the world on six continents.

And with concerts located closer to entertainment centers, consider treating yourself to a full afternoon or evening of elegance at any one of North Orange county's fine restaurants, bistros or cafes.

Make the YLSO a part of your total entertainment experience. And, as always, we look forward to seeing you see us there!
